THE DIPLOMAT

“The most civilized people are as near to barbarism, as the most polished steel is to rust – nations, like metals, have only a superficial brilliancy”
- Rivarol

As Webster’s defines the diplomat as, “a person appointed by a national government to conduct official negotiations and maintain political, economic, and social relations with other countries. A tactful person skilled in managing delicate situations.”

To be successful in business one must not only develop these people skills but also be familiar with the sensitivities in dealing with people from other cultures. We refer to this as the power positioning quotient Research shows those individuals who develop these skills quickly rise to higher levels of success in the marketplace. Intelligence or educational training no longer are guarantees for success. Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the client is paramount in today’s marketplace. This is especially evident with the international client. Understanding the need for the development of cultural intelligence is paramount for success.
